Perhaps none of us should have been surprised that those students who attended the study day about the Tate Modern exhibition of Sigmar Polke’s work should have ended up talking about Charlie Hebdo. Yet what was interesting about our discussion was that it was triggered by an artist who was not only one of the most gifted but one of the most anti-authoritarian and non-conformist of his generation.

Study Visit: Composition Workshop

Join OCA’s Andy Glover and Chris Lawry on Saturday 11th April 2015 between 9.30am and 5pm for a composition workshop at MAC Birmingham. The day will consist of advice and discussion on writing for String Quartets and for Flute & Piano featuring, in the morning session, The Take Four String Quartet and, in the afternoon, The Buchner Duo.

Photographic Palimpsest

Can there truly be a photographic palimpsest where there are layers upon layers hiding and disguising mistakes and decisions made? Or can it only exist in a manipulative and synthetic state where layers are purposefully formed to be decoded in an elaborate ruse? Perhaps through our ever-increasing digital libraries, new palimpsests will form or maybe this data recovery process could be a new movement of found photography.

Do Paintings Talk?

OCA Tutor Michelle Charles, will be hosting a museum visit to the Tate Modern in London on the 7 February from 12-2pm. During this very special study session you will be introduced to some of the artists whose works are on display in the permanent collection whom Michelle personally knew.
