Generation

This Autumn OCA are running two separate study visits to Generation.
It is a landmark Scotland-wide initiative showcasing some of the boldest art to come out of the country in the past 25 years. Ben Thomson, Chairman of the National Galleries of Scotland said “Scotland has produced some great internationally acclaimed contemporary art, not only from Scottish artists but also from artists working and training here from all over the world.’
The study visit in Glasgow, on the 11 September, starts in GoMA and focusses on several solo shows under one roof, including work by video artist Douglas Gordan and figurative painter Moyna Flannigan. It then moves on to the Tramway, where the imaginary environments of installation artist, Cathy Wilkes, are on show.

The Edinburgh study visit, on the 11 October, focuses on a large group exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art that includes the work of painter Victoria Morton and sculptor Nathan Coley, followed by a visit to the National Gallery that includes the work of painter Stephen Campbell and installation artist, Christine Borland. Students can also visit the exhibition at The Fruitmarket, as an optional extra where there is a solo show by Jim Lambie, who is known for his psychedelic installations.

  • Sorry, I made a couple of mistakes. The video artist is Douglas Gordon, not Steve McQueen. Victoria Morton is showing at the Gallery of Modern Art, not the National Gallery. Put it down to the enormity of the Generation initiative and too much summer sun.

    • Thanks Olivia,
Hope to get along to this study visit. I visited the Cathy Wilkes exhibition at the Tramway last weekend and found it a moving experience.

  • As you can see, the Edinburgh part of the study visit has been rejigged to take in the Gallery of Modern Art, as there is more to see there. The mistakes have been corrected, too!
