Join us in Epsom

Epsom
I’m afraid we are not inviting you to a day at the races, rather a lunchtime meeting at the University for the Creative Arts.
On 27 and 28 October we will be seeking to validate six new degrees. We have already announced our plans for degrees in Music and Moving Image and will also seeking validation for degrees in Fine Art, Drawing, Illustration and Graphic Design. This means far more choice for OCA students.
The validation process is largely based on the documentation which we have developed to describe each degree pathway, but the reviewers also would like to talk to some OCA students over lunch. This is a very informal event and students who have attended previously have found it interesting.
We need volunteers who have studied or are studying drawing, painting, printmaking or sculpture for 27 October and students who have studied any Visual Communications course, music or the Digital Film Production: Creative Concepts course for 28 October. The meetings will last about an hour and volunteers should be reassured, they are not being examined, the reviewers are just interested in their experience of studying with the OCA.
We can pay travel expenses for students based in the UK, to volunteer please email enquiries@oca.ac.uk
We will release details of the new degree pathways shortly after the validation meetings.

  • I’m not ‘eligible’ for this particular event but did attend a similar one a couple of years or so ago when OCA achieved accreditation with UCA.
I can certainly confirm that it wasn’t a frightening experience at all and useful to see more of the context within which OCA works. It was also an opportunity to share my student experience with representatives from UCA as I don’t think that the traditional Universities really have much grasp on how different it can be to be a distance learner and the importance of building networks of support.
Hope you get your needed volunteers Gareth.

  • Being a Student on Painting 2, I would volunteer to attend, but flying in from Munich and then travelling onto Epsom would be a bit too much, merely for a one hour Meeting. Seeing that this concerns online studies, they might consider interviewing the students online.
But good luck with the validation and I’m eagerly awaiting the validation of the Fine Arts degree

    • Thanks Sonia – I did make this very point. In the end, we have some relatively local volunteers who could go to the meetings, so the inflexibility is not critical.
