Perhaps we should all make a note to watch this periodically. I sometimes feel the gap grows wider but unless we do keep going it certainly won’t get any narrower – thanks for sharing this.
That feeling of disappointment never really goes away as your expectation increases as your skills increase. I find it’s a motivator – without it I’d be complacent and content so I wouldn’t be creative and innovative any more
Me too, its just another thing to use to take your work forwards,seeing the problems in your work, working out what they are and finding ways to go forwards is quite important I think.
I get the feeling a lot of people get discouraged though, which is a shame for them, and also it makes it difficult for people to be critical which is another thing you can use for the same purposes.
And some great examples of mise-en-scène for us DFP students! Thank you : )
I’m not sure about the word ‘taste’. It all sounds so well mannered. There is a danger of finding you have closed the gap, developed a style and then churn it out. I see a lot of artists doing this and the galleries seem to like artists to have a signature style. While I agree with committing to developing I don’t see any point of working for the sake of it. I’ve said this before, but I think a lot of bad habits and repetition can develop with a work ethic that thinks putting in the hours is enough.
