New Course: Foundations Music

We are pleased to announce a new addition to our foundations suite of courses: Foundations Music.
The OCA’s foundations courses are designed for students who want to develop their skills and understanding before embarking on degree level study but they can also be studied as interesting courses in their own right, providing an accessible way to explore a diverse subject such as music, with support from a specialist tutor.
Music Programme Leader, Dr Carla Rees:
“I am delighted to be able to include this new course in the OCA’s music provision. The Foundations course provides a grounding in music theory (to ABRSM Grade 5 level), history, writing and research (through an independent research project) and composition. It is ideal for any students who want to brush up on their skills before launching into our music degree, and a great starting point for anyone with an interest in music who has not yet had the opportunity for formal study. It also serves as an introduction to the subject for students with an aim to following the Creative Arts pathway. No previous musical experience is required, and we welcome all students to explore what the subject has to offer.”
Foundations students get the same level of support as OCA undergraduates and can join study visits, access the student website, participate in forums and tap into the many and varied resources.
The course is now open for enrolments. To find out more and to view a sample of the course visit the course webpage HERE. If you have any further queries regarding the course, please email carlarees@oca.ac.uk.

  • Hi,
I like to know more details regarding this foundation course, why is it taking an year to complete?
    Many thanks

    • Hi, the course represents 400 guided learning hours so, if a student spends around 8 hours a week on the course, it will take a year to complete. There are also listening and research components which take time to develop fully during the course.
More information can be found on the links above but if you’d like any more specific information about the course you can email the Programme Leader for Music, Carla Rees, ( carlarees@oca.ac.uk ). You can also speak to our enquiries team by telephone on 0800 731 2116 (+44 1226 730 495) or by email: enquiries@oca.ac.uk.
      All the best,
      Chris

      • Hi Chris,
Thank you very much for the quick reply.
        I appreciate it.
I may ask Carla Rees regarding the details.
        Have a wonderful day.
