Brilliant. Last year’s visit was worthwhile—the exhibitions, the companionship and chats long into the evening—and the workshop on the Sunday morning. It’s going in my diary now. I could not afford to go to Arles—travel costs and working days—but this I can. Thanks Gareth for organising it again.
YAY! Can’t wait – I really enjoyed this event in 2012. Hope to meet lots of old, and new, OCA friends there. Just looked at my snaps again from last time – can we entice Jose to join us again, do you think? http://www.helenrosemier.com/brighton12
Looks good (and its relatively local!) I’ve applied.
Hi Richard , which day
Terry
Gareth, do you have any idea what the programme will be? I can only really come for one of the two days so it would be good to get a rough idea whats happening on each day. Thanks!
Only very vaguely at this stage I am afraid Emma. I anticipate it will be similar to 2012. A very long day on the Saturday with a lot of gallery visits and some form of social in the evening and a slightly shorter day on the Sunday starting with a discussion of students’ work and some further gallery visits. There is not a problem with booking on both days and then withdrawing from one when the programme is a available. I hope this helps.
Thanks Gareth, I’ll book onto both days and see if I can persuade my other half he wants a whole weekend with the little one!
I shall put my name down tomorrow and look forward to seeing Vicki, Helen and Richard again (amongst others). Such a change from 2012 when I knew hardly anyone, I’ll try to get in the same hotel as everyone this time. Where’s the party going to be?
Let’s try to find somewhere cheaper than the Hilton bar for the party!
The party in Arles was on the rooftop terrace, shame it rained… But it was very enjoyable.
I will be there….
Great – I’ve applied. It was a great weekend in 2012, really informative and the chance for extended discussions was really helpful.
Now had to withdraw 🙁 It’s the same date as my father in laws naval dinner and I’d promised to take him as he’s unable to make the trip by himself.
Hooray – I got a place. My first study visit. I’m going to attend both days so am looking forward to meeting you all then.
Look forward to meeting you Chris.
I’ll try and make it there as we pass through the south of the country on our way to France… I haven’t told Mrs TM yet though. 8-
I’m sure she’ll be thrilled! Look forward to seeing you both again in the sunny South.
I’ve been looking forward to this for the past two years! Last time i went it was action-packed, stimulating and full of visual variety and fun (of course). Will be booking my place tomorrow. Definitely to be recommended.
Is this for drawing students as well? I live in Brighton so it would be good to meet some fellow students.
I’d love to go, is there a preferred place to stay?
Hi Kimberley and Nicola
Students are welcome from all subjects. The Travelodge on the sea front is probably the best bet.
already logged in … contacting my friends there for a bed!
Hoping to see you all there—just booked my hotel
I booked mine too – same place as last year.
I’m at the New Madeira – near the Pier
Can I ask, as this is my first visit of this kind, how it is organised in terms of meeting up and so on? At the moment I just know I’m going to be there, but I’ve no idea about how things are arranged from now? What happens on the day(s) etc.
I realise I will need to book a hotel for the Saturday eve but are there any other costs I might need to be aware of?
Many Thanks
Chris
Hi Chris,
We at OCA will send an itinerary closer to the day, there will generally be a fixed meeting point at a particular time. As for other costs only things like food and drink, I’m sure your fellow students who’ve attended it in the past will be a fountain of knowledge!
Joanne
Thanks for the reply Joanne. That does help. I need to book something now or I’ll be on the beach!
Looking forward to meeting up again. Where are you staying? Had a nice place last time but was expensive.
I’ve just booked my room at the Travel lodge. I’m going to come down on the Friday as it is a 3 hour train journey from where I am. If there is anyone doing the same we could perhaps meet up
I’m really looking forward to this study visit, It will be wonderful to meet some more students. If any of you are Brighton way be sure to check out the MA Photography show, the private view is tonight, Friday 12th September. For more details check out their website:

I’m coming down on Friday and making a long weekend staying till Monday. It would be good to meet up on Friday.
Where are you staying?
Just booked into Granville again, got a great deal as have stayed previously.
I am also arriving early (thursday night!) and would be happy to arrange dinner for Friday night for anyone interested … presently it looks like you two also Brian Cooney and Vicky so that makes five. have started a blog about this in the Photography forum … http://www.oca-student.com/content/brighton-photography-festival-18-19th-october-2014
Am staying at The Royal Albion at the bottom of the Parade on the sea front from thursday onwards … let me know if you want to meet for diner on the friday evening.
I don’t know anyone going or my way around so if there is anyone who has been before it would be great to meet up
OK Kimberley … some of us such as myself have been before but I don’t think you’ll find that a problem!
18.30 meet up in the lounge at The Royal Albion Hotel on the seafront bottom of the Parade
Fab, enlightening, knackering weekend! Thank you Gareth, Jesse, Angela, Russell, Sharon and Clive for giving up your time to be with us—so appreciated.
Echoing Vicki’s thoughts and thanks. Great to meet up with old and new friends. It was well worth the trip and I got plenty of much-needed inspiration and encouragement. The atmosphere in Brighton is so lively. I wish the festival was yearly!
