Creative Writing gets a blogger

We Are OCA has a new Creative Writing contributor.  We can expect some exciting and thought provoking posts from her since her background spans creative writing, PR, the theatre and teaching.  Elizabeth studied English Language and Literature at University College London.  Her varied employment has included teaching, PR and then a period as learning director for Sheffield Theatres where Elizabeth was a member of the team responsible for preparing the Crucible theatre in Sheffield for re-opening following a £15.3 million refurbishment.  Since going freelance in 2010, she has managed a Sheffield-wide consultation with teachers, curated an exhibition about the history of The Crucible with a group of volunteers, and led the delivery of a training programme for the Crucible’s’ 400 staff, commissioning scripts from applied theatre company Dead Earnest. Throughout her 20+ year career in PR and communications, Elizabeth has continued her literary interests as a regular member of reading groups in London and Sheffield and as a student of creative writing at the City Lit in London. You may be familiar with Elizabeth’s name as she has been working with us since last year on public relations to increase student enrolments and raise our profile in the higher education community. Elizabeth said: ‘OCA has given me a wonderful opportunity be involved in a professional capacity with the subject which I still love the best, 30 years after finishing my degree. I already have a long list of ideas for posts which I hope will get people thinking – including myself! I can’t wait to get stuck in.’

  • Since I’m a Sheffielder too, welcome. Hope we can meet up some time. I tutor Poetry 1 and Writing Skills and am doing some assessing this year. Hope to get on to some level 3 portfolios soon.

  • Welcome, I am a composer/creative writer who is looking forward to reading your blog in the coming days/months. Have a particular interest in poetry.

  • Welcome Elizabeth, I’m looking forward to the blog!
And for all writers interested in SHORT STORY, take a look at new online mag http://www.paraxis.org
It is for short stories and issue 3 is open for submissions on the theme of TRANSFORMATION. It tends towards Sci Fi, but is interested in stories which engage with real characters and real futures – take a look at Micheal Moorcock’s intro to issue 1. You dont have to like hardcore sci fi, to read and write for this, and the standard of stories in issue 1 is good.
