An Introduction

Hello all! While I wait for the computer to process another drawing video tutorial with Jane Lazenby I thought I’d take the time to introduce myself. My name is Mark Lomas and I’m going to be producing a range of video tutorials and interviews for the OCA as well as photographing some of the artwork that students produce throughout the year.

In addition to being here at the OCA I work as a freelance photographer covering news and sport and also work on personal documentary projects. I’m a founder member of Statement Images, a photographic collective made up of photographers who trained on the only NCTJ (National Council for the Training of Journalists) photography course in the country. My work has been published in national newspapers, broadcast in television documentaries and been included in gallery exhibitions.

I’m about to start filming a tutorial sharing tips on how to go about photographing your artwork and will be working on more photography related features in the near future. We’ve also got some painting tutorials lined up with OCA tutor Emma Buley in the next few weeks. Hopefully you’ll find them a useful resource so let us know what you think. Also don’t forget to pass on any tutorial requests that you might have and we’ll see what we can do!

  • Hello Mark,
nice to meet you. I look forward to your tutorials. Can I make a request please, for something from you about your photojournalist work?
    Eileen

  • Hi Mark
I’m an OCA student on Painting2-FYW. Have found the recent videos an excellent resource. Really looking forward to what you come up with.
    Cheers, Sue

  • Hi Eileen, well that might be a very short video! I’m still very much a work in progress. While i’ve decided the press photographer route isn’t one for me (too much hanging round outside court rooms is a killer for your creativity) i’m quite excited by working for the OCA as it lets me do work i enjoy but will also give me time to work on some personal projects. So i’ll be sure to keep you posted on what i get up to.
Hi Sue, thats good to hear. We’re filming some painting videos in the nest few weeks so fingers crossed you find them useful.
    Thanks
    Mark
