I’m sure I recognise them; aren’t they off the telly?

When I think back to my university days, the tutors I remember best were those with an obvious love of their subject and a love of sharing that with those of us still willing to learn after a night out.
The OCA’s ethos of open access is what drew me in some 7 years ago, and is one of the features that attracts tutors to the OCA. No doubt a visit to sunny Barnsley is another!
The tutors you will work with across your studies are not just experienced tutors at HE level. All the Open College of the Arts tutors are practising artists, photographers, designers, writers or composers, with an understanding of the difficulties of distance learning – some of our tutors studied with the OCA themselves!
Who better to guide you on your journey than an artist whose paper you can read in a journal, those whose exhibitions you can go to, or even one you can watch in action on BBC’s Big Painting Challenge!
And you don’t just get one. Over your degree you’ll have access to at least five different tutors, all with their own viewpoints, creative styles, and perspectives. Access to this breadth of artistic talent and knowledge will develop your own understanding in your chosen areas and guide you on your own creative journey.
That’s not to mention all the tutors who you’ll get to meet digitally on the discussion forums, or in person when they’re leading study events or exhibitions.
All these tutors might have their own say and critique, but the thing that they’re all striving for is helping you to access your personal voice and creative style, building your confidence as a practising creative artist.
This has been our fifth day of #accessoca, join us tomorrow for day six, and see if a photo really is worth a thousand words ….
