Library Services and Fees for 2017/18

First the good news. From August all undergraduate and post graduate OCA students will have access to the UCA online library service. This includes all e-magazines, e-books and journals. The range and depth of these resources cannot be exaggerated and students will notice an immediate benefit. For many level 1 students this might be because they no longer have to subscribe to magazines such as the British Journal of Photography or Selvedge (screenshots above and below) or buy books which they can read online or download sections. As students progress through their studies the benefits will accumulate and students at level 3 will find the online journal access invaluable for the contextual studies. We are delighted to be able to offer this service to students and are currently testing the functionality and developing guidance materials, so that students will be able to readily use the service when it goes live.
Inevitably services like this cost money and we are announcing today that fees for new students will increase by 10% on 1 August 2017. Fees for existing students will continue to be protected and increase by 2.5% (roughly the current rate of inflation). A full table of fees is available to download here
New students who enrol on their first course before 1 August will have their fees for subsequent courses protected for five years, provided they study continuously (i.e. in each academic year they do one of the following: enrol on a course unit, submit at least one assignment to their tutor or submit work for formal assessment).

  • The news about the libraries—music to my ears. Thank you! The news about fees—c’est la vie.

  • Really great news and will be so useful to everyone. Cannot wait to use the service and thank you very much indeed !!

  • I would like to underscore how wonderful a resource this will be, especially for contextual/theoretical modules and courses. It gives OCA students ‘real’ university level research access – great news!

  • This is excellent news and will really help students explore their individual interests and read up to date material.

  • This will be extremely useful especially to folk like me who have virtually no local library access whatever, for art related books and publications.

  • Thanks – this will be much appreciated – I quite frequently come across online (music) resources which require an institutional log in – or pay for access – and OCA is rarely (never?) one of the listed institutions. In the meantime, I have joined the Barbican Music Library which gives free access to Oxford Music Online and a large range of music journals. It’s also a fantastic lending/reference library if you can get to it.

  • I am extremely excited as I am isolated here in Montenegro with no access to English libraries. Thank you. I look forward to the details.

  • Fee increases are never pleasant, but the news about access to a proper online library is terrific. It’s good to see this missing piece be put in place.

  • The full library service is magnificent and the accompanying fee increase remarkably modest. Thank you.

  • Thank you for your efforts in securing this service. I am sure it will benefit all who use it.

  • It’s really not clear – your course fees I mean.If I do an hons degree in creative writing how much will the whole course cost? And if I’m a pensioner ( which I am) living on the state pension would it be possible to have any kind of reduction? I need to add that my fiction is fairly proficient and that I’m not a beginner. Thanks. Jane Carmedy

    • Hi Abigail,
Please email enquiries[at]oca.ac.uk and we will be able to respond fully to your query.

  • That is wonderfull news about the library. How will we be able to access it, will we receive log-in details?
    Thank you

  • I’m into the online library, having a ferret around and the resources look fab! Thank you so much to all at OCA who worked tirelessly to get this to happen!
