OCA Music web chat: Inspirational orchestration

Join OCA Music tutor Chris Lawry and fellow music students for an informal web chat from the comfort of your own home. The chat will start at 6.30pm on Wednesday 29 May and continue ‘live’ for at least an hour and a half. The chat will also remain open after that time for follow up conversations, or for those unable to be online at that time to catch up and read. The chat will provide an opportunity to ask questions, share ideas, inspirations and music, to highlight best practice in critical listening and compositional skills, and to engage with the wider OCA music community.
The subject of this webchat is ‘inspirational orchestration’ and is a chance to discuss music that inspires you, regardless of genre, style or instrumentation. You may have music that intrigues you, in that you’d like to discuss ‘how it works’ or how it might apply to your own studies, or you might have music that is fundamentally important to you that you would love to share with others (tip: never underestimate the power of recommendation for finding unfamiliar music). Whatever your take on ‘inspirational music’, I’d love you to join the discussion!
The chat will take place mainly in text form using Padlet (a new platform for sharing and organising ideas). You do not need an audio or video connection in order to take part, however, you can share and post on Padlet using webcams and audio (if you have the technology – or want to!) as well as share YouTube videos, other links and upload screen shots/diagrams/score fragments.
Padlet is quite a versatile and interesting collaborative platform that has many potential uses in your studies and OCA future course design. After you register for the webchat, you will be emailed instructions on how to use Padlet, how to log in, and be given access to a test Padlet set up so you can try it out before the 29 May.

Further web chats using Padlet, hosted by tutors Carla Rees and Chris Lawry, will follow in June and July.
Sat 15 June 2019 @ 4 p.m: ‘Student 4’33” projects’ (please email carlarees@oca.ac.uk asap for more information)
Sun 14 July 2019 @ 6 p.m: ‘Interpreting scores – What is authenticity?’ (please email chrislawry@oca.ac.uk for more information)
If you would like to take part and would like further information, please contact chrislawry@oca.ac.uk.
