OCASA Committee Places

Nominations are in, and some of the places on the OCA Student Association Committee are decided.
For two subject areas there were only single nominations, so the nominees join the committee unopposed. They are:
Fine Art: Mary Adam (personal statement and bio here)
Music: Chris Lawry (personal statement and bio here)
For Photography there were two nominations and an election will be held:
Sarah Gallear (personal statement and bio here)
Stuart McQuade (personal statement and bio here)
The election will be held electronically. Eligible photography students will emailed a link to an online poll within the next 24 hours and have until 12:00 BST on 1 September to vote. If you have not received the polling email by Thursday morning, please check your spam folder first, then email enquiries@oca-uk.com. [Students who wish to vote by post should put the name of the candidate they wish to vote for on a slip of paper inside an envelope and write their student number on the back of envelope. This they should then post to the standard OCA address: OCA, Michael Young Arts Centre, Redbrook Business Park, Wilthorpe Road, BARNSLEY, S75 1JN. Postal votes need to be posted to arrive before the same deadline as for electronic voting]
For Creative Writing, Textiles and Visual Communications no nominations were received. Students in this area may be approached in the coming weeks to see if they are interested in being co-opted on to the committee.

  • Nice to see OCASA formation bumping along at pace. Good luck to Mry & Chris in their new roles and to both Sarah & Stuart in the head-to-head. If votes are equal can we settle it by a Joust and can I take the photographs 🙂

  • Congratulations to Mary & Chris – thankyou for coming forward and I’m looking forward to working with you in the near future.
Thanks also to Sarah & Stuart for your nominations – good luck to both of you for the election.
… and to students of Creative Writing, Textiles & Visual Communications, could I add that if, now you realise there are no nominees, any of you want to contact me to ask questions or even to volunteer, I’m still interested to hear from you. My e-mail address is president@ocasa.org.uk

  • Thanks! Congratulations to Mary and best of luck to both Sarah & Stuart.
Looking forward to representing the Music students.
I’m sure there are some Creative Writing, Textiles and Visual Communications students out there passionate enough to represent their subject… join us, you know you want to!

  • That’s great news about the new members of the Student Association Committee, and thank you to those who are elected and those who have volunteered their services on our behalf.

  • Congratulations Mary and Chris and wishing all the best to Stuart and Sarah in the election. I think you’re all brave for volunteering yourselves.
Stan what will happen if there are no nominations for the other disciplines?

  • Catherine – I hope that there will be some nominations, of course, but if not one option might be to co-opt students from whatever discipline, who are willing to serve on the committee, in order to make up the numbers. But let’s cross that bridge if and when we get there.

  • Congratulations to Mary and Chris. As a music student I already feel reassured to have you, Chris, representing the musical students at OCA. I am a new student to the OCA (although a seasoned OU student) and so still finding my way. It feels very exciting for me to have our very own student association and it really seems as if it is getting off the ground now.

  • I’m not jousting- while I’d love to watch it through a lens, I don’t think i’m capable of riding a horse and holding onto something!
Anyway, I prefer to be behind a camera not in front of it 🙂
