New Designers study visit

New Designers is the Graduate show case for Colleges and Universities offering courses in Art and Design throughout the UK. We will be taking a group of OCA students to visit it on Saturday June 29th, meeting at the venue – the Business Design Centre – at 11.30am. Its in Islington which has excellent transport links.
New Designers is both inspirational and informative and is appropriate to those students studying on Textiles or Visual Communications courses at any level. It is recommended that OCA Textiles and Visual Communications students should aim to see this show at least once during the course of their studies. For students new to the OCA, it will give you some idea of what to aspire to and enable you to see first hand the range of work that the field of textiles and Visual Communications embrace. Students in the final stages of their course will be able evaluate their own work by viewing the work of their contemporaries. It will also give an opportunity to think about your own potential and preferences in furthering individual routes to more advanced study, appropriate employment, or the potential of working independently.
The textiles show divides roughly into three parts, Textile Design, which is more technology based, (digital and other processes), Contemporary Applied Art, that covers the more “one off” pieces and the work of designer makers and a section called One Year On which is a show case for designer makers who have been working independently since graduating. The Visual Communications work covers work across a range of media and disciplines. And if you are bored with looking at this work, there is always exciting work in ceramics, jewellery and glass to inspire you.
