Study Visit: Modern Scottish Women

Dorothy Johnstone, portrait of Anne Finlay, 1920

Join me on Saturday 21 November at Modern Two in Edinburgh.
This study visit will give us the opportunity to study and reflect on the work of several Scottish women artists. Some of these artists, such as Anne Redpath, may be known to you. Others, such as Phyllis Mary Bone and Gertrude Alice Meredith Williams may be less so.
It has to be remembered that in 1885 it was unusual for women to enrol as students to Scottish art colleges. By 1965, unprecedented numbers of women were studying art. The difficulties women faced as students and artists are also explored in this exhibition. This, along with the work on show, will make for an interesting discussion.
There will also be an opportunity to see the permanent display of prints by Wilhelmina Barns- Graham.
Please join me for a fascinating study visit.
