In this slide show OCA tutor and assessor Linda Khatir talks about a painting by Anne Linehan, which she produced as part of her work on her level one painting course. we think the audio on the slide show is worth listening to twice. The first time while looking at the close up detail in the slide show, the second time while looking at the overall effect created by the image (click play on the slide show and then scroll up to image above)

What a brilliant piece of work! Thanks for sharing this with us. Looking at the video shows all the detail of texture and glitter – it must have taken ages. The glitter detail reminds me of Chris Ofili. This inspires me to be bolder too – well done Anne.

Fantastic i really like the colours and textures you have used it is very creative i hope to paint like this oneday with more confidence.
WOW! Thank you so much OCA for choosing to highlight my painting”WASHING BASKET’.It was such a surprise, I am absolutely delighted with the response it has got.I did spend quite a bit of time on the work, it was very much a process of trial and error and lots of experimentation. I really enjoyed creating this piece of work and if it inspires other painters to be more creative then that must be a good thing! The positive feedback has given my confidence an enormous boost and now I cannot wait to begin a new painting. Anne Linehan
Thank-you for this brilliant image. I love the colours and also the way the basket fits into a very real corner of the room. I’m interested to know: did you edit the colours you saw to create a better picture? The paler basket makes a good foil for all the coloured clothes. Beautiful work! Janet Middleton (Stevenage)
Hi Janet. Yes I did use artistic license with some of the colours, such as the black outline on the clothes overhanging the basket and on the tea-towel.I also made the colours of the wash basket slightly pinker and outlined the flowers with a bolder colour to stand out more. I used artistic license to create the background effect as I wanted to Jazz the painting up a touch and to balance and harmonise it more. Thanks for your interest in the painting and your positive comments!
Amazing colours Ann, your lovley painting, for me has an oriental feel, mixed with a Matisse boldness, I am looking forward to my next painting more now, thank you.
I agree with Margaret’s comment about the oriental feel and the Matisse boldness – it has exactly that. A sense of Japanese architecture, ceramics, kimono fabrics, and even Manga in the bright patterns and colours…
well done Ann what fantastic comments I hope to see a lot more from you now
