Arles 2015
This September the OCA study visit tour bus will head south again to visit the Rencontres d’Arles. For those not familiar with the Rencontres, it the largest photography festival in the world. Join us for two intense days of viewing, thinking and socialising. It is an immersive experience. You will see work you love and wonder how other work got to be included. The one thing that is certain is that other students will have different opinions and debate will rage. Exhibitions this year range from Walker Evans and Stephen Shore to previously un-exhibited work by Natasha Caruana, ‘Love at first sight’ (Link here to programme in French if you can read it. Rest assured the study visit will be conducted in English).
Arles study visit in a nutshell
3 to 6 September 2015 (including travel to/from Arles)
3 nights in Arles with a group meal on the Friday evening and social on Saturday
2 full days visiting exhibitions (Friday 4 and Saturday 5)
Students will be required to make their own travel arrangements and book their accommodation. If you are thinking of extending your visit (the festival is huge with over 50 exhibitions) you are advised to stay on after the study visit. Partners are very welcome to attend the social components of the visit, but depending on numbers we may restrict the study sessions to students only. It’s worth saying that Arles is a beautiful city with plenty to see other than the Rencontres and by September the temperature is typically an extremely pleasant mid-twenties rather than the searing heat of mid-summer.
The OCA team, led by Course Leader Jesse Alexander, will almost certainly travel to Arles by train and will be staying at the Hôtel Porte de Camargue, which is an affordable option within walking distance of the historic quarter of Arles and the festival venues.
There is a £25 non-refundable booking fee for this study visit. The OCA will cover the festival entry fee for attending students – standard fee 31 Euros.
To book or to ask questions about the visit please ring the OCA office during office hours (0800 731 2116).

Booked and looking forward to it 🙂
Also booked. I’ve been promising myself this trip for a few years now after hearing such good reports from fellow students. I’m pleased be able to fit it in at last!
Would have loved to go but they expense is over the top buy the time u factor in the travel and accommodation cost
I might be in Russia, but I would love to hit Arles again…
I think I might have broken that rhino last year….
Could be Brian – they have dropped the animal models for this year!
haha! I wonder if they’d sell me the rhino for the garden!
Quick update: There are 12 students booked to go. Still plenty of room if anyone wants to join us.
We will be starting as last year in the Espace Van Gogh with a Stephen Shore exhibition
Hi Gareth
Is it still possible to book for this event?
Yes, ring the office tomorrow (Tuesday) and ask to be sent the joining instructions
Thanks Gareth. I’d forgotten that Monday was bank holiday in England!
Looks like a healthier turnout than last year then … anyone up for a meal meet on the thurs evening … this will be students only !!
I’m happy to meet up on the Thursday evening
I´m interested to go. The only problem being is that I have to leave on the fourth. I´d be interested to meet any tutors of students going and see some work.
thursday evening is the 3’rd … we have eaten at a very nice restaurant on the pre night for the last 2 years … I won’t however be able to arrange this I do not expect to arrive until late thursday afternoon !!
Thanks to Gareth and Jesse and the other students for an inspiring weekend. It was a great weekend and I learnt a lot.
