A lacy midlands study day!

Step into a world of lace like you’ve never seen it before. See how the patterns, materials and cultural traditions of lace are represented through radical new approached by UK and international artists. This OCA study day will be of interest to Fine Art and textiles students. It will take place on Saturday 11 February 2012.
Featuring large scale, theatrical and visually spectacular work , this exhibition challenges perceptions of what lace can be, involving the visitor in an environment where spaces become fluid and thread creates entirely new boundaries. Many international artists are showing in the UK for the first time and artworks will be breaking out beyond the bounds of the gallery into public spaces and outdoors.

The exhibition is curated by Lesley Millar MBE Professor of Textile Culture at the University of the Creative Arts and organised jointly between the Crafts Council and Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.
The Venue is Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and there is an accompanying new display of lace from the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery’ s textile collection.
Lost in Lace: Concealed and Revealed tells the stories behind lace , revealing hidden histories and the dark side of these beautifully made items.
We’ll meet in the foyer of Birmingham Art Gallery in Chamberlain Square at 11am on 11 February. OCA students wishing to attend should email enquiries@oca-uk.com. Places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. Curriculum Leader for Textiles Pat Moloney will be leading this study day, along with tutor and textiles assessor, Liz Smith.

  • This sounds like a slice of OCA textile student heaven. But I will be floating on my own cirrocummulus at the Jaipur elephant festival in India.
