New Brighton revisited

Join OCA tutor Derek Trillo on the 11 August at the Sailing School Gallery, New Brighton, Wallasey.
This is a unique opportunity to view up close the rarely seen seminal – and controversial – work by this country’s best-known photographer, in the location where it was shot. Not only that, but two other excellent artists who have lived and worked in New Brighton are also exhibited alongside Parr’s work: Tom Wood and Ken Grant. All three give a broad view of a period in this urban resort’s life, from stifling sunny days to the early hours of the morning in the nightclub.
Contrasting three different views over a similar period displays insights into the variety of different forms that artists can produce from essentially the same subject matter. New Brighton is the day-tripper beach resort accessed by the ferry across the Mersey from Liverpool, the commercial coast around Wallasey.
After a tour of the exhibitions we will have the opportunity to discuss the different approaches and subject matter. Next we can head out around New Brighton to re-visit the locations and to discover new ones, creating our own contemporary versions. You can make images (photos, drawing, or whatever medium you like), with the option of returning to meet up later on and compare results.
