SIABP: Study Visit
On Friday 1 November, Christian Lloyd will be leading a study visit to the Sheffield International Artist’s Book Prize at Bank Street Arts in Sheffield. In addition to being a tutor and Curriculum Leader for Visual Communications, Christian was also a judge for the prize. This is a must see exhibition for OCA students of any discipline and Christian is brilliantly placed to talk about the work on display. Having visited myself on Saturday I think that the word ‘display’ probably gives the wrong impression. Nearly all of the work can be picked up and inspected in detail. If you don’t come away inspired and bursting with new ideas for you own work I will be astonished.
The booking procedure is the same as usual, places are free of charge to OCA students and are reserved by sending an email to enquiries@oca-uk.com The visit starts at 11am and Bank Street Arts is about a 15 minute walk from Sheffield Station.
A fantastic show. Over 450 ‘books’ are on available to at, hold, smell, feel and so on.
There are conventionally printed volumes of radical text pieces, books of photography, poetry as well as bespoke one-off letter press works. There’s also one bound in slate, a giant embroidered hanging, lots of folded sculptural works, too.
I can see it being of interest (and use) to pretty much anyone studying at the OCA as it covers textile, printing, drawing, painting, writing, and mixed media.
I agree Bryan. One of the best exhibitions I’ve been to this year, full of inspiration!
Full of work, too. (see my other post).
It’s perhaps worth noting that, aside from there being some great stuff in this show, it’s a competition that was free to enter and everything submitted has been displayed. That’s a rare thing and students visiting this should be kicking themselves for not entering…
Some of us did enter…
Well played. I have the catalogue in front of me. Which one is yours?
