Here is a great student blog by Aylish Giamei. She is a student on Drawing 1, and has just got to her first assignment submission, studying alongside working as a vet and travelling between Leeds and Italy. She clearly works extremely hard and her supporting work was particularly strong for Assignment One, especially in terms of in depth research on her blog with some great sketchbooks to back it up. Here is a link to a good page from her blog in which she comes up with a schematic for Redon (reproduced here) which is an interesting and personal way of creating a tool for research.

  • Aylish’s blog as a supporting tool for her research and drawing is a fantastic in depth exploration of her own experimentation and the links with her work with other artists. She really appears to get under the skin of contextualising events that tie together artistic movements with literature, science, other artists, design and production as you can see with her schematic diagram above. Her instinct to marry key events with artistic production demonstrates a keen interest in attempting to understand the world around her and inform her studies on Drawing 1. As her tutor I was extremely impressed by her passion to do this and was equally impressed by the volume of research she has undertaken for her first Assignment.
