  • It is interesting to see how horses have been painted throughout history. Didn’t Velazquez and others before him use dead horses as models? I’m sure I read somewhere that he had one strung up in his studio. This would account for the static, bloated look his horses had. Before Muybridge showed artists that horses move in a particular way, artists also used to have the forelegs moving together and the back legs moving together, which gave them a rocking- horse look. It’s a fascinating subject.
