Join OCA tutor Emma Drye on the 1 October at GoMA in Glasgow.
Deep in the Heart of your Brain includes sculptural installation, drawings in pencil and video work and the themes are disability, care and loss.
Donachie has worked with a group of sisters where one is affected by an inherited genetic condition and the other not.
The show is described as coming out of “This rich archive of personal reflection on age, appearance and disability”
Donachie is a nice example of an artist who uses residencies and grant funding, often working with partners in non art sectors, to enable her to make work.
We are lucky to be joined by Katie Bruce, producer curator at Glasgow Museum of Modern Art (GOMA) who will meet with us to talk about curating and producing the show. This is a great opportunity for SYP students and others to get some inside tips. Later we will be attending a panel discussion where Mark Hamilton, a clinical research fellow at Glasgow university’s institute of molecular and systems biology institute will be responding to the work alongside the artist, Jacqueline Donachie. This will be of interest to pretty much everyone, particularly anyone with an interest in collaboration, science and art, funding and systems of production or any aspect of the subject matter and interdisciplinary method.
To reserve your place please email enquiries@oca.ac.uk or alternatively to request a place on a study visit please click here and complete the form.
For study events that require a ticket, there is a non refundable fee of £10 to pay and your confirmation email will instruct you on how to do this.

  • Can I just remind anyone who is coming that if you would like to email me jpegs of your work, I can put them on my ipad and we can look to squeezing in a little discussion if there is time. It is really kind of Katie to agree to meet with us privately to discuss the work, and great to be able to attend the panel discussion where the artist will be present. It has just been announced that Donachie has won a major art prize and will be staging a solo show at the prestigious Fruitmarket Gallery next year so she is a name to look out for.

  • I spent a couple of days in Glasgow last month and went to view this exhibition. It was quite remarkable. For me, the centre piece of the display was the video ‘Hazel’. The simple, straightforward style of the video belies its powerful impact. I found it extremely moving. I would recommend this exhibition to everyone.
