Edinburgh College of Art has an international reputation as one of the leading art colleges in the UK, merging with the University of Edinburgh in 2011.  OCA is organising a study visit  on Wednesday 5 June 2013. This is the first time OCA have organised a study visit to an art college degree show and we hope this will inspire you in your own studies.
The visit aims to help you:
Gain a personal perspective on the work of final year degree level graduate students<
Reflect on the experience of seeing the work of these artists to consider your own work in this context and take the opportunity to ask questions of the students to investigate their practice
Network with other OCA students
For anyone interested in this exhibition who can’t visit in person, look at the art college website which has examples of work from degree shows in earlier years, here is the 2011 show, including artists’ statements from all of the students with an image of their work.
Kari Adams, 2011 Edinburgh graduate and painter of the above image says of her work: I see myself as an ‘arranger’ of things. I am an artist who appropriates imagery and products – taking them from their convivial structure, rearranging their anatomy. I try to place meaning within new form.

  • Thanks for the link, it is great to see the work being produced at this level and really helpful to be able to read their statement along side it. I was struck by the variety in the works.

  • Sarah- we would take the lead from what participants wanted and ensure that the day was best suited to everyone. We would probably start off looking at Drawing and Painting, as I imagine there would be quite a lot of people studying these courses. There would be ample time to look at the other schools- Sculpture, Illustration, Textiles, Photography, Printmaking etc. We would meet afterwards to discuss what we had seen. There will also be time after the study visit for students to stay on and see more.
