Conflict, Time, Photography
On the 31 January Russell Squires and Clive White will lead a visit to Tate Modern to view Conflict, Time, Photography.
This exhibition focuses on the passing of time, tracing a diverse and poignant journey through over 150 years of conflict around the world, since the invention of photography.
In an innovative move, the works are ordered according to how long after the event they were created from moments, days and weeks to decades later.

Seems like a depressing start to 2015, reinforcing that ‘nothing changes’, but the reviews are excellent so I’m hoping to be there.
Coincidentally looked at this section on one of the exhibitors yesterday:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-LRREqYPgA&feature=youtu.be
I highly recommend it. I went to this exhibition after the Drawn by Light study visit and even though I cried I found it incredibly engaging, thought provoking and yes the realisation that things don’t change no matter what is definately depressing. I still have to write my thoughts on it but I wish I could go down to London again just to see it one more time.
Going to try and make it, but no promises…
Yep – I have a pass for a day out in the big smoke…
Essential reading for this exhibition I think http://www.theguardian.com/news/2014/dec/23/-sp-passive-consumers-pornography-violence
In most respects Will Self isn’t stating anything new but he certainly writes with forceful energy. This morning I heard the interview with Juergen Todenhoeger, the author who spent ten days in territory controlled by IS – very chilling.
Classic Will Self – erudite but a mix of insight and rather confused thinking in my view.
This study visit looks like it will be a provocative start to the year – 28 students signed up so far and Clive, Russell and myself reading up frantically..
Good read for a Monday morning. I’m not sure (as is often the case with Mr Self) I agree with, or possibly fully understand for that matter, some of the points he is making, but nevertheless provocative. Looking forward to the visit.
I wish that most of the study days were not in London, its difficult to get to them, I would attend more if they were not so far away as I live in Shropshire, but i am sure those going will give a good report on it
Simon Norfolk talks to Julian Stallabrass in this video http://tariqalitv.com/portfolio/19-julian-stallabrass-talks-to-simon-norfolk/ and specifically about some of the work on show.
For those who have not yet discovered the link, there is a mobile guide to the exhibition for iPAD, smart phone etc … which can also be accessed via the internet on a computer!

After the OCA visit yesterday, I went back and saw it again with the guide as prompt. This is a major exhibition! Any other students planning on the 16th of February evening talk!?
