Format 13
This is a post from the weareoca.com archive. Information contained within it may now be out of date.
Format, the Derby International Photography Festival opens in March and OCA tutors Jose Navarro and Andrew Conroy will be leading a study visit on Saturday 16 March. The Festival is clearly going from strength to strength and there is a lot to see across the city.
The theme this year is ‘Factory’ and this has been interpreted widely to include all aspects of production and its ramifications. With so much to see, it is a challenge to pick highlights, but personally I am pleased to see work by Caroline McNally and OCA tutors Moira Lovell and Chris Coekin included, and after picking Ian Teh‘s Traces as his book of the year in 2011 Jose is determined we go and discuss his work.
Places on the study visit are free to OCA students, to book email enquiries@oca-uk.com
I wish! I was sad enough to book my holiday starting the week after Tom Hunter—so that I did not miss that one—now I miss Format. Will try and make my own way there after holiday. Enjoy!
likewise facing travel issues … need to visit India for some photos around this time … juggling away … might there be time between Hunter and Format … mmmnnn!
India later … for now Format beckons … joining instructions advises us to check out photographers I have not heard of … OK but what about work by Mark Power and Brian Griffin? … Jose Navarro wrote the documentary module for the OCA so trust we will be going to see what he considers worth seeing !!?
Is Mark Power there though Amano, I couldn’t see him on the list?
I’ve been to a Chris Coekin exhibition quite recently and it seems to be at least some of the same work…so I’m going to improvise a bit with my pre-reading, looking for some “landscape” related work that might be relevant to my course. I’m sure we’re allowed to do extra research 🙂
good point … I know that Mark Power has been there because he is giving a workshop … but maybe he is not exhibiting! Shall check the programme again!
OK … Brian Griffin has 2 exhibitions running … in Gallery 1 at the Derby Museum and Art Gallery also at BPM Window; Simon Roberts is on at the Silk Mill and Ed Burtynsky is at The Chocolate Factory as is Ian Teh (Jose’s choice) … does not look like Mark Power is exhibiting!
I may need an extra day …
Attended last year. It was a great day and well worth the effort.
