Hunters Study Visit
The photograph above (Huntress With Buck) is perhaps the best known of David Chancellor’s work having won the National Portrait Gellery’s Taylor Wessing Prize in 2010, yet he has been exploring the culture of hunting in South Africa for a considerable time. His work, like the practice of hunting, provokes strong reactions – see the comments on this piece in the LA Times for a few examples. An exhibition of his work at Bradford’s Impressions Gallery provides a welcome opportunity to consider the work and we are pleased that tutor Andrew Conroy will lead a study visit to the show on Saturday 29 November.
Places are free to OCA students. To book your place please email enquiries@oca-uk.com
Let me share a link to another photographer… Katerina Plotnikova :
They are intriguing photographs Stephanie. I think a lot of the discussion at the study visit will be about how we portray the natural world and whether there is exploitation going on…
What time is the kick-off for this visit? I’ve got an appointment in the morning, but might be able to make it over…
Hi Rob,
The visit is due to start around 11am,
Joanne
I am sure that this will prove to be an interesting visit – wish I could be there. We are probably all aware of the big game hunting and poaching that goes on, but here is a short article about small game. This appeared in a local newspaper 5 days ago and only a few kms from my home.
