The American South provokes powerful emotions. A troubled history, rural isolation and poverty and more recently dramatic economic and population growth, the region has inspired a diverse literary tradition from Mark Twain to Harry Crews. This important exhibition at the De La Warr Pavillion surveys an equally diverse body of photographic work and runs from 1 October to 3 January 2011. The OCA has a few tickets to a contextual talk on Saturday November 6 which are free for students. Students will have the opportunity to visit the exhibition, attend the talk and then join me for a discussion over a cup of tea or coffee. If you are interested please email enquiries@oca-uk.com

Be nice to have some exhibitions/workshops up in the North West, that is counties like Cumbria and Lancashire not Liverpool or Manchester ! Surely I can’t be the only student up here ?
It would also be nice to have some workshops in
Northumberland. We have plenty of good exhibitions in Newcastle:
The Baring Wing at Newcastle university is currently showing the work of Sally Soames (until 1st Oct).
The Side gallery, dedicated to photography, also always has a good programme.
This will be only the third gallery visit we have done since trialling the idea in June, but I am sure we will get to places north in due course. Certainly from my perspective they are a lot easier to get to from Sheffield than Bexhill on Sea!
Good links marmalade – I think there is so much going on as part of the Biennial that is is worth making a weekend of it – there are still places on the OCA visit

Nope, I’m up north too in Cumbria. But it sounds an interesting exhibition and will be interested to hear others feedback.

This looks interesting too which is ‘relatively’ close by to Bexhill and is on at the same time as this exhibition; the Brighton Photo Biennial http://www.bpb.org.uk/. There’s an article here by Martin Parr about it http://www.bjp-online.com/british-journal-of-photography/q-and-a/1732951/q-a-martin-parr-brighton-photo-biennial
