Oil

Good news from the Photographers’ Gallery. They have announced both a re-opening date and the first exhibitions in their enlarged premises. I am particularly excited that we will get the opportunity to see Oil by Edward Burtynsky.

We first blogged about Oil almost exactly two years ago, and as students who will have recently experienced the, arguably related, Mitch Epstein American Power work at the Open Eye Gallery, this is a body of work which really needs to be experienced face to print. Personally I agree with Paul Roth, curator at Washington’s Corcoran Gallery when he says that ‘Burtynsky, takes us to places we have never seen, places we were perhaps never meant to see and he shows us a world which has incredible importance in our lives‘ The scale of the work can be seen in this video

We will be arranging a study visit to the Photographer’s Gallery in the near future and announcing details in the weekly eBulletin.
