Out of focus
We have learnt from experience that group shows throw up some interesting opinions and debate, so we could let the latest survey of what the Guardian calls ‘the confusion of contemporary photography‘ at the Saatchi Gallery pass without a visit.
Join us on Saturday 14 July as we take a look, get excited, get annoyed and maybe other emotions as well. We are expecting this visit to attract a lot of interest so we will have two tutors with us, Clive White, a familiar face to frequent study visitors, and Sharon Boothroyd joining us for the first time. (Take a few moments to check out Sharon’s Blog: Photoparley – you will not be disappointed).
The visit will start at 11am. To book your free place email enquiries@oca-uk.com

Sounds fascinating – I’m looking forward to it. It will be good to meet Sharon – Photoparley looks very interesting.
I’m looking forward to this and to meeting Sharon. Such an interesting website and blog which give me much food for thought.
I feel excited about this trip (hope I get a place) and am wondering why…
Is it because of words like ‘Saatchi’ and ‘confusion’ that suggest a contrast (for me) from the usual formal, tight curating perhaps…? I wasn’t aware that I was finding it a strain but maybe I feel a need to see something a bit looser and free-er for a change; work that doesn’t need to justify itself, that I could just look at for the pleasure of looking..
Photparley looks very interesting!
“the confusion of contemporary photography … ”
I wonder if this visit will help to clear my confusion over contemporary photography or just intensify it !??
I found the catalogue helpful with it’s essay by William A Ewing; here is one quote …
“I believe that we are missing something essential if we don’t acknowledge that photography covers a much broader field than what is found on museum or gallery walls.
This was quite a significant visit for me, and I think may have fundamentally changed my approach to the whole course. I don’t think I’ve seen a better example of what this degree is all about. Brief details over here-

Here is the link for my blog of the day; there is more that I could write and may update it …
