Shape-Form-Texture-Colour

I am grateful to tutor Alan Byrne for bringing my attention to the work of student Ghada Al Qassimi. Assignment 4 of Art of photography requires the student to use their knowledge of lighting to bring our physical properties of a single object, producing two photographs each which emphasise shape, form, texture and colour. It is perfectly acceptable to use an egg for this assignment and rather more challenging to use a glass jug. Describing Ghada as his ‘most improved student to date’ Alan was taken by Ghada’s choice of her daughter as the ‘object’ and the way she has produced new work in an area which is replete with stereotypes. Enough words from me, enjoy the images.

  • I’ve been following Ghada on Flickr. I think these images of her daughter beautiful and a future heirloom. She has captured the essence of shape form, texture and colour and infused it all with light.

  • I have also noticed Ghada’s work on Flickr and am struck by these images!
The second photograph of multiple images of the child is interesting; there is an intimacy in these images as well as originality.
There is also beauty here not just in the child but with the manner of representation.

  • What enchanting Pictures. I am not a photographer, but lookat them froma painting and illustrators viewpoint, and find them inspirational. I especially like the Mother and baby, and the first black and white one. Dorothy

  • Hi Ghada, I left a message about the first image when I saw it posted on the student website, so you know already how beautiful I think it is. I enjoyed seeing it again here, and in the context of the other images. It remains the outstanding one for me, the colours, textures, light and composition – all coming together to create a memorable image.
The set of images do also have a sense of unity about them and this too is lovely. Well done, Ghada!

  • Hi Ghada. Its great to see your work here – well done!

Plus I also have a daughter and know that these will be treasures for a whole family as well as picture. save them somewhere safe, copy them, put them in a bank vault!

  • An inspiration Ghada, you have made me think very carefully about assignment 4 – due next month. I hope I can do it with the originality and flair you have managed

  • Ghada,
These images are amazing! I have never felt compelled to comment on anyone’s work before but this set of photo’s are unbelievably good. I’m really struggling with this course and hopefully you have inspired me to continue and not give up.

  • Whow, what an amazingly creative eye you have, these pictures are stunning and your creativity is wonderful, the colour, form and innovation in these shots are to be proud of.
Gives me inspiration to press on and develop new ideas, and think out of the box,
    Your daughter is beautiful too
