Very exciting, challenging and refreshing. “Pushy” is well put.
I liked the “pushy” comment as well – great assignment
This is quintessentially the Siegfried I know. I’m so pleased that you’ve brought this piece of work to everyone’s attention as it is an example of how she continually questions and challenges the Art of Photography – and her student colleagues on how they perceive it.
Interesting that you’re linking the Mistral typeface with “Flashdance” Les. I wonder if Siegfried did the same?
Catherine, I have to admit that I didn’t research on the background of the Mistral typeface before this assignment. I was struggling with typeface since assignment 4. There were a lot of fonts I can choose from, but the variation of many of the serif and san-serif are too small to give me a good impression.
In “Fracture”, I made my own font for the title, but I ran out of time to do it for this. So, I began to look around in the scripted font. I want something that give me a sense of carefree, because this assignment built on a very rebellious idea.
It was serendipity then because you got just the right mix.
Yes a very good piece of work and I was impressed Siegfried mentioned it some weeks ago, unbelievable that she’s not taking photography as her degree path.
It might explain her ‘lateral’ response to the brief.
I will come back to photography eventually, after I have enough hardship with doing illustration. For the last two months, there is not a week pass without myself wondering why I didn’t sign up for People and Place instead.
Really happy that this work has been highlighted here-for two reasons. Firstly, it shows an innovative approach to the brief by a student and the OCA’s openess to accept such work; but also because I know that Siegfried worked really hard at this and questioned her ability and submission. This acknowledgement by OCA shows the work was good. Well done, Siegfried.
Well done Siegfried…..great and innovative work
That’s so great to see such a take on this assignment… Really, really inspiring!
I was quite moved when I first saw this work. Excellent and very provoking work. Well done Siegfried!
It’s good to see and be part of so much encouragement and warmth that we are able to give each other. I think it is a very significant quality that OCA has compared to a bricks and mortar college – ironic really when you think about it.
I’m also saying this because of the warmth and support that has also recently gone out to Eddy for his recent achievement – after so much energy and hard work he too has put into his study of photography.
So glad to see your work recognised like this – well done Siegfried!
I just want to say thank you for all the encouragement, from OCA, Les, and all my classmates. When I first start, I thought a degree in photography will get me to take some nice picture. Now I feel that the degree gears us toward asking question and sharing ideas with photographs. I feel that I still don’t know what exactly is “photography”, but I feel fortunate to get encouragement for different people to explore different ideas, even some of these ideas just sound crazy or absurd. I am also thankful to those who encourage me at the moments when nothing seems to work (which happens quite a lot, by the way).
I have to admit that the moment when I stop thinking a “pretty” photograph is the most important thing in photography, the material in UVC looks awfully interesting! Apparently I have not suffered enough in OCA yet.
What course does UVC stand for?
UVC = Understanding Visual Culture. The infamous torture house in OCA.
But it’s such exquisite pain! 😉
I think that’s a great description of the Visual Studies module. I have just finished it and certainly experienced the torture but also some satisfaction when I felt I ‘got’ it!
Hi Siegfried, This is a really stunning assignment, and certainly provides me with inspiration. THANKS. I am struggling with this assignment at present and am nowhere close to this type of work.
Such creative work, Siegfried! You show a lot of talent and promise. You also are a lovely person with great energy. It was so nice meeting you and enjoying the Charles Dickens tour in rainy London! I hope we meet again sometime. Best of luck to you!
Maria.
Hi Siegfried, Your project is really impressive, Maria is right you are very talented! I too enjoyed yesterday’s visit and it was a pleasure to meet you.
