On Sunday 2 April 2017 OCA tutor and programme leader Rebecca Fairley will host a study visit to The Hepworth Gallery Wakefield to see the Disobedient Bodies exhibition. Curated by one of the world’s most innovative contemporary fashion designers Jonathan Anderson, this exhibition contains a selection of sculptures displayed, alongside notable fashion pieces and objects of craft and design, investigating the way the human form has been preconceived by artists and designers across the 20th and 21st centuries. The selection is shaped by Anderson’s long-standing passion for modern art (from the mid-20th century) and the underlying questions of gender that have been posed by his own fashion collections at J. W. Anderson.
This exhibition should stimulate creative ideas and demonstrate the link between design and art helping students to use similar creative practices as a reference point. We will spend the morning exploring the exhibition, discussing its relevance to current practices and sharing ideas and view. After lunch Rebecca will be available to look at and give feedback on student work. This will take place in the indoor picnic area in a group or with individuals depending on the student’s preference. It is suggested you bring a small selection of work, this can be sketchbook based, current textile sampling or a combination. If you would like your work to be seen by the tutor let her know at the beginning of the day so arrangements can be discussed.
