What is your tutor up to? Chapter 11: Vicky MacKenzie
Creative Writing tutor Vicky MacKenzie will be getting a dose of her own medicine in June when one of her short stories is critiqued by writer A L Kennedy in front of a live audience. This event will take place at the Byre Theatre in St Andrews on 20th June, in collaboration with the University of St Andrews’ School of Modern Languages.
A L Kennedy will give a public Masterclass on the craft of short story writing, analysing unpublished short stories by four writers. This will be followed by a talk, “Principles of Prose”. The four stories are available to read in advance on The Byre Theatre’s website. The event is free but ticketed and starts at 6.30pm. This event may make students grateful that the OCA’s feedback process is rather more private! You can read more of Vicky’s short fiction on her website.
Vicky, that sounds both terrifying and yet enormously useful! I am sure there is very little to fault in your writing – but I hope you find it helpful.
Thanks Barbara! It should be a fun evening – but yes, also a bit terrifying! We were asked to submit a story that we’d redrafted but wasn’t totally finalised, so AL Kennedy has some work to do!
