What is your tutor up to? Chapter 9: Barbara Henderson
Creative writing tutor and programme leader Barbara Henderson’s fifth novel will be released on 1 March.
Barbara uses the writing name Bea Davenport for her children and adult fiction. The Misper, her latest novel, is aimed at readers aged thirteen-plus.
The book blurb says:
I knew this girl, you see. A sort of a friend. No one thought she really mattered much, but that turned out to be a mistake. Because she blew a hole through my life – and the lives of everyone I knew.
Anna’s found the perfect friend in Zoe: she’s cool, she’s smart, she’s goth, she’s gorgeous. If only geeky Kerry would stop hanging around and cramping their style. They’d like to get rid of her. But they should be careful what they wish for…
Zoe and Anna resort to experiments in magic to try to bring control into their lives. But as Zoe’s emotional state becomes more and more fragile, Kerry bears the brunt of her anger. When Kerry disappears, everyone’s lives change. The Misper is the story of obsessive adolescent friendships, jealousies, bullying – and the consequences of your actions.
It’s published by The Conrad Press.
Barbara’s other books for younger readers are The Serpent House (2014, Curious Fox) and My Cousin Faustina (2015, ReadZone Books). Her two adult crime novels are In Too Deep (2013) and This Little Piggy (2014) (both Legend Press). You can read more about Barbara’s writing on her website.
Delighted to hear about this success Barbara. This sounds a wonderful book for the age group and I can’t wait to read it. I’m hoping that some other blogposts will follow, giving those who write for young people some hints and tips from your experience.
Thanks Nina!
Congratulations Barbara, looks great!
