What is your tutor up to? Chapter 19: Dr Dan Robinson

Dan has just won a Northern Writers Award TLC Free Read with New Writing North and was shortlisted for the Word Factory Apprentice Award. Both involved submitting extracts from his novel in-progress, The Two Ys.

Dan’s background is in site-specific art practice. He previously used writing as part of art projects. His short fictions have appeared on posters and pamphlets, online, and carved into foam and wood as part of sculptures, installations, residencies and events.
In 2017, he did an Arvon fiction course and is currently doing MA Creative & Life Writing at Goldsmiths.
He is now working on a collection of short fictions about place and a novel. The novel is set between present day Yorkshire and Colorado, where an archive of ancient Japanese land-use leads a grieving protagonist to lose himself. An extract is published online in the Goldsmiths 2018 anthology here

Dan is interested in working across different creative disciplines. He used to run an Interdicisplinary Art & Design degree in Leeds and has worked collaboratively with Grizedale Arts and Mud Office.

This summer, Dan is co-leading (with fellow OCA tutor Melissa Thompson) a series of OCA student study visits, workshops and hangouts about Art & Environment.

The above YouTube video shows artist Hanna Tuulikki’s vocal response to Dan’s Cabin for Dukes Wood, 2013. Dan’s short story, A Walk from Duke’s Wood with Lunch in Bilsthorpewas available to pick up at the cabin.

Previous work is archived on Dan’s website
