This is a wonderful opportunity for textile students to see the work of this prolific, practitioner of contemporary craft. The study visit will be on Friday 3 May and start at 11.00. Tutors Pat Moloney and Sarah Taylor will accompany the group. Kaffe Fassett is synonymous for his vibrant and instinctive use of colour, pattern and texture. The exhibition promises to be a spectacular celebration of over 100 works which span a life time of creative output. In a ‘dramatic’ installation by designer Sue Timney, the exhibition will chart five decades from his early career as a painter; and later, as a textile designer for the likes of Bill Gibb and Missoni, right up to the present day. Exhibition highlights include extravagantly-coloured large-scale knitted shawls, coats and throws, glorious quilts and new works especially created for this event.

This is the first major exhibition in London since his retrospective one-man show at the V &A in 1988. The venue is the Fashion and Textile Museum (FTM), an intriguing building designed by Mexican architect, Ricardo Legorreta and founded by British Designer, Zandra Rhodes. FTM Curator, Dennis Nothdruft says, ‘The exhibition will provide new insight into one of the most accomplished colourists of the late 2oth and early 21st century. We hope to introduce Kaffe Fassett’s work to a new audience and inspire future generations to explore colour, texture and form’. So, come along and be inspired!
‘Kaffe Fassett Dreaming in Colour’, accompanies the exhibition, publisher: Stewart, Tabori & Chang. Please email: enquiries@oca-uk.com if you would like to book a place. OCA will cover the cost of tickets. A Highlight Tour has been booked and we hope to organise a ‘Couture Inside-Out’ presentation nearer the time which will allow us to view fashion and textile items from Museum’s permanent collection as well as this special treat.
