Bradford study visit
Warsaw, Poland. February 2005. © Mark Power / Magnum Photos
A real visual treat of a study visit on Saturday 17 March in Bradford. Starting at 1pm we will visit two galleries. First of all, the Impressions Gallery where we will see Magnum photographer Mark Power’s work The Sound of Two Songs, a project which started with a one month visit to Poland in 2004 and grew into an ongoing relationship with the country.
Swoon, Stencil detail, 2006
We will then move to the B1 Gallery where we will see a collection of street art prints from the V&A collection which includes work by Banksy, D*Face, Eine, Miss Tic, Shepard Fairey and Swoon. This will interest fine art, visual communications and many other students is really not be missed. Anyone in any doubt should read Eileen’s review of the Swoon London show last year.
We are expecting a large turnout so will be there in force ourselves; Christian Lloyd, the Curriculum Leader for Visual Communications, and Jane Horton, Curriculum Director, will be there with me.
Places are free, of course, and open to students across the OCA. To book your place please email [email protected]
This is very very tempting, though it would make for a long day. I like Mark Power’s work very much: he is top of my list for a future creative review – a really interesting photographer. And Swoon’s work also! Should be a great day and very stimulating.
It is certainly quite a way Eileen.
Alan Whetton has just confirmed his attendance, so we shall have two tutors and two members of OCA staff supporting the visit.
Just put my request in…
If anyone is up for a visit to the Media Museum beforehand, give me a shout.
Do check the Media Museum’s programme. Their current photographic exhibitions end at the weekend, and there is usually a gap before the next ones opens. I popped into Impressions Gallery yesterday – Mark Power’s images are very diverse and thought provoking.
Blink of an eye already open at NMM – if anyone wants to meet up for a chat and a bit of photography or whatever beforehand, I’ve posted something on the student site and Flickr.
Hello Rob, I need to check rail times, what time do you think you’ll be there?
I’m looking to arrive for about 11am – I’ll be around Impressions/the puddle and probably with a camera in my hands…
I now won’t be attending – apologies…
we missed you Rob !!
Hopefully not in any important way. Will you be giving a nudge when your thoughts are published?
Rob
Someone owes you 20p and they are not happy being in debt!
I shall nudge when my blog is done but I think I want a copy of the book first and that may take time since it comes from Poland.
I shall be staying near the gallery the night before and would be happy to meet with anyone prior to the actual OCA meeting …
By the way, the book of the exhibition costs £145 from Amazon
If you go to this link …

it costs £40 plus postage!
